Faculty Position in Structures and Emerging Building Technology
The Department of Architecture, University of California at Berkeley, is conducting a search for a full-time position in Structures and Emerging Building Technology. This position is open at the tenure track level (Assistant Professor) with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2014.
The Architecture Department has a distinguished tradition of fostering innovative design and research. Our award-winning faculty offers rigorous undergraduate and graduate degree programs and conducts pioneering research in architectural design, building science and technologies, and architectural history and theory. The Department of Architecture provides instruction to 500 undergraduates and 160 graduate students in the B.A., M.Arch., M.S. and Ph.D. programs.
The Architecture Department seeks exceptional candidates with the interest and potential to integrate architectural design and structural engineering. Applicants must hold a degree in architecture and/or engineering, with an advanced degree in one of those disciplines by time of application. University teaching experience and/or creative accomplishments in the form of professional work or research is highly desirable. Successful candidates should demonstrate their understanding of and experience in the use of computational methods and techniques in the conceptualization, design, analysis and communication of both constructed and speculative environments. Teaching responsibilities will include foundation courses, lectures, seminars, and workshops, as well as a collaborative teaching role in design studio courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, focusing on building structures and computational technologies (analysis, simulation, fabrication, and information modeling, etc.). Additional duties generally include advising undergraduate, M. Arch., M.S. and Ph.D. students as well as service to the department, college, university, and the greater community.
