RESEARCH ASSOCIATE 4
College of Art & Design
Louisiana State University
The Coastal Sustainability Studio is a rapidly growing program where scientists, engineers, and designers come together to intensively study and respond to issues of settlement, coastal restoration, flood protection, and the economy in Coastal Louisiana. CSS was conceived as a design laboratory to develop strategies that reduce risk to social, economic, and natural resources. The results provide a sound basis for major policy decisions for adaptation through more sustainable land-use planning, protection, and education. Primarily made up of faculty, research fellows, and graduate students, the studio is an energetic and growing presence on LSU's Baton Rouge campus.
We are looking for highly motivated people who have experience in their fields but very much want to engage in a broader multidisciplinary space focused on the issues facing coastal Louisiana.
Candidates will primarily be working to develop an extensive visualization program in conjunction with the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. This program will develop animations, drawings, diagrams, digital models, physical models, and displays to communicate the complex science, engineering, and community design occurring around coastal Louisiana. Additionally, the candidate will work with graduate students, staff and faculty on other studio projects and research in the studio, produce research for our website and academic journals as well as make presentations at conferences, participate in competitions, and assist in our lecture series.
Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Coastal Science, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning or a related discipline, and one year of related experience; experience working in a trans-disciplinary design environment. Additional Qualifications: Experience working on critical problems associated with coastal protection and restoration in Louisiana. Familiarity with a range of technical computational applications: hydrodynamic modeling and 3D modeling.
An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Application deadline is October 22, 2013, or until a candidate is selected. Apply online and view a more detailed ad at: www.lsusystemcareers.lsu.edu. Position #037585/037586
