About the Construction Estimator Position: The Construction Estimator will work to prepare bid packages for high end residential interior projects and new construction/renovation of single family homes. The Estimator will be responsible for the entire estimating process, including subcontractor RFP solicitations from a preferred vendor list and estimator’s own sub-contractor resources, budgetary estimates, assist project management in subcontractor buy-outs and prepare hard copies of bid packages for client submission.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in Construction Estimating with a proven track record of accuracy, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Strong understanding of the NYC Construction and Design environment, including a network of owners, designers, sub-contractors, etc.
  • Outstanding organizational skills. Must possess a structured, logical, and methodical approach to problem solving. Must be able to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.  Ability to effectively recognize issues with bid documentation and discrepancies in contract documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to effectively work with everyone from project managers to office staff to sub-contractors.  Must be effective in directing and supporting the work of others.
  • Strong technical proficiently, including absolute expertise in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities: Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Review construction design drawings & specifications, conducts field visits and gathers all material and data necessary to determine scope of work and organize a construction cost estimate.
  • Prepare cost estimates.
  • Prepare and organize material takeoffs for transition to Project Management Team.
  • Create detailed cost estimate based on project scope.
  • Develop the scope of work for sub-contractors.
  • Optimize job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for material/services.
  • Interface with Owners, PMs and Superintendents to provide engineering and cost data on Design/Build estimates and change order preparation.
  • Maintain file of working documents as back-up for estimating database, including current information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Collects cost data and proposal from subcontractors, and vendors
  • Prepare bid and payment packages.
  • Prepare buy out package for the subcontractor and vendors.
