The San Francisco office of SmithGroupJJR is looking for an Intermediate Medical Planner to join our highly-collaborative Healthcare Studio team. We are seeking a talented individual who has a broad understanding of healthcare industry and operations, interest in research, and capacity for multiple forms of analysis related to functional space and design.

Working with us, you will be:

  • Part of a close team of individuals dedicated to driving forward-thinking concepts about healthcare spaces through strong planning and design expertise.
  • Directly responsible for medical planning, programming, space planning, and integrated design solution for small to medium sized projects.
  • Meeting directly with clients, lead user groups, analyze client’s problems and conceive and develop architectural solutions commensurate with the needs.
  • Initiating and creating schematic designs and plans with responsibility for the preparation of presentation drawings, models and narratives.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard architectural/ design/ engineering/ planning techniques, procedures, and standards.
  • Researching, planning, designing, reviewing functional/ spatial/ design/ infrastructure requirements of new structures or renovation.
  • Leading the medical planning efforts for healthcare projects and work with the project team in the development of projects.
  • Coordinating medical equipment and infrastructure needs with medical equipment planning consultants, structural/ MEP consultants and technology vendors.
  • Involved in Strategic and Facility Master Planning work for Healthcare Systems and campus sites.

We are looking for:

  • 8-12 years of Healthcare Architecture experience with the desire to work in Healthcare Architecture.
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and a grasp of the inter-relationships among medical departments and components of the healthcare delivery system.
  • Excellent design/ planning ability and the potential to generate a variety of options for the layout of departmental spaces, healthcare facilities and campuses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to represent SmithGroupJJR in planning workshops and client/user interviews with user groups.
  • Knowledge of CAD, 3D computer modeling and graphic design.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • A self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment with a collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • Certification in LEED AP and EDAC, preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit, required.

SmithGroupJJR offers competitive compensation and an excellent benefit package, including 401(k) and continuing educational reimbursement. We offer 3 weeks of paid time off within the first year of employment, with the option of purchasing additional time off, and pay for 8 federal holidays. We also offer an alternative work schedule that provides employees with an additional 15 days off per year (usually Fridays) to help with work/life balance.
