The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is seeking a temporary Exhibition Design Coordinator. As a member of the Exhibition Design Department, the Exhibition Design Coordinator is responsible for supporting senior staff with the architectural design, production, and coordination tasks related to the design and installation of exhibitions in the Guggenheim Museum network.  It is expected that this position will last from early August 2014 through early January 2015.

Founded in 1937, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is dedicated to promoting the understanding and appreciation of art, primarily of the modern and contemporary periods, through exhibitions, education programs, research initiatives, and publications. The Guggenheim network that began in the 1970s when the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, was joined by the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, has since expanded to include the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (opened 1997) and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (currently in development). Looking to the future, the Guggenheim Foundation continues to forge international collaborations that take contemporary art, architecture, and design beyond the walls of the museum. Supervisory Responsibilities:

There are no direct reports associated with this position. This position may occasionally oversee interns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce schematic design documents under guidance of senior staff.
  • Produce design renderings, study maquettes/models and other presentation materials to convey design and exhibition scope to Curators, Director, and various other Museum departments and outside parties.
  • Assist senior staff with planning process: preparing art layouts with Curators and researching installation dimensions/specs/instructions.
  • Assist in sourcing vendors, soliciting quotes, and obtaining material samples.
  • Produce drawings and specifications for mockups and prototypes.
  • Assist senior staff with on-site mockups, installation support and documentation.
  • Conduct field surveys of galleries.
  • Assist department Exhibition Design Coordinator with maintaining department supplies, model area, material library, and CAD files.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • BA in Architecture or 3D design field
  • 1-2 years relevant work experience
  • Professional experience with schematic design documents.
  • Advanced 2D drafting skills, preferably Vectorworks, 3D modeling and rendering preferably Rhino and VRay, and Adobe Suite.
  • Familiarity with building code and public safety requirements.
  • Facility with building both study and finish models.
  • Demonstrated interest in fine art, particularly modern and contemporary.
  • Excellent concern for details.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a flexible, fast-paced environment.
