Job Summary

JCJ Architecture is currently seeking a dynamic and creative individual to help expand their growing team in Phoenix. The Sr. Project Designer shall be responsible for performing complex interior architecture and design commissions, working closely with the Project Leadership (Design Team Leader, Project Manager & Project Architect) to develop specific and detailed scope for projects, outlining tasks required and results expected for the entire project team.  The candidate shall possess a demonstrated ability to think 3-dimensionally, and  be able to communicate design ideas through rough hand sketches, 3D computer modeling or other medium.  Must be able to collaborate with the team, solve problems and turn concept ideas into technical drawings, and implementing them in Design Development and Construction Drawings.

It is essential for the Sr. Project Designer to have client management skills, sketching skills, project management, and negotiation experience. The candidate should have intermediate level AutoCAD and Photoshop skills, with at least 3-4 years working with both programs. The candidate must have leadership experience and the ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently achieving high standards and goals. Provides daily leadership for the design team during the design phases of a project, and support of the project team during construction including periodic site observations. Proven experience in motivating and inspiring others is essential.  Extensive experience with hospitality projects is required. Experience will include mid to large scale ground-up or renovation Hospitality Projects.  Experience with casino projects is preferred.  Graphic, written and verbal presentation skills are required. Travel may be required. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and develop original designs solutions for new hospitality, gaming and/or entertainment facilities, renovations and adaptive reuse of project type with a employing a comprehensive, specialized knowledge of these building types.  Shall utilize their extensive knowledge of hospitality design, building materials, construction methods, along with the integration of engineering disciplines and building costs and codes.

  • Initiate and create creative and sound designs solutions with ability to create presentation materials and design drawings for client meetings.

  • Assembles the necessary design documentation for conceptual, schematic and design development design phases.

  • Collaborates with the Design Team Leader to develop the overall project design to address the client’s needs inclusive of budget, schedule and vision.

  • Reviews project design plans, design direction, budgets and planning for new and existing projects.

  • Provides design information, decisions, and solutions to the Project Team throughout the course of assigned projects (through completion of construction).

  • Reviews the requests for design changes and creates new detailed drawings accordingly.

    • Develops project design requirements as a result of research, discussions with Project Manager, Principal in Charge, Design Team leader and client interviews.

    • Maintains frequent communication with the Design Team leader, Project Architect, Project Manager and other appropriate individuals to sustain proper information flow.

    • Responsible for finish material selection, preparation and presentation of finish boards, and finishes binders.

    • Communicates decisions on finish and material selections to project documentation team, and construction specifier.

    • Compiles or oversees the compilation and maintenance of the project product manual, which records interior design decisions.

    • Interfaces with consultants, ensuring the coordination of the design portion of the project is completed in a timely manner.

    • As part of a project team, may lead a team of designers to develop project design requirements and solutions for assigned projects. 

    • Coordinates the work of the project design team during the design phase of each assigned project, including JCJ staff and consultant.

    • On FF&E projects, defines scope, selects products and systems, and coordinates the preparation and bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents. Makes recommendations of products and systems for purchase to clients. 

    • Maintain up to date knowledge of products and materials available on the market.

    • Participates in the proposal/interview process with clients to secure new business opportunities.

    • May serve as the Design Team Leader on selected projects.

    • This position is expected to demonstrate professionalism and sound judgment. It is essential to share your knowledge and experience with others and support a continuous learning environment

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Architectural or Interior Design degree from an accredited 4 year + program (or foreign equivalent).

  • Licensed Architect, Professional Registration/License or NCIDQ is required.

  • 10+ years’ experience in creating design solutions, design management and architectural/interior services.

  • Extensive experience in Hospitality is required .Additional experience with Casino Design, FF&E and procurement is preferred

  • Strong design portfolio with primary focus in Hospitality.

  • Experience in all phases and aspects of a project including programming and planning and FF&E selection and specification.FF&E procurement experience a plus.

  • Strong competency in interior design specifications, calculations and industry standards, and application of building codes and specifications.

  • Strong sketching, graphic and computer skills. Proficiency in the basic technical skills of interior design including the following computer skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
    • Proficiency in Revit is preferred.
    • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign graphic software.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate work efforts of junior staff both within Phoenix office and other JCJ offices.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Collaborative and professional work ethic.
