A renowned architectural lighting design firm based in New York City seeks an architect with at least 5 years of experience in project management. Preference will be given to architects and interior designers with experience in luxury retail projects.
The position involves managing a team and coordinating the design for the worldwide store rollout of a global luxury brand. The project manager will be responsible for leading a team of lighting designers from Schematic Design through Construction Administration, for venues ranging from flagship stores to shop-in-shop kiosks. Short-term international travel (2-5 days at a time) to France, China, SE Asia, and other locations may be required on an occasional basis. The applicant must demonstrate the ability to meet aggressive deadlines; the projects will proceed at a fast pace as multiple venues may be under design and construction at any time. Excellent time management and client and team coordination skills are key, as is the ability to problem-solve within changing conditions.
Excellent knowledge of and experience with all phases (SD through CA) of the architectural process.
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Proficiency in Adobe suite: Photshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Microsoft Office
Sensitivity and appreciation for design aesthetics (of all kinds)
English fluency required. French or Chinese (Mandarin) language ability a plus.
Strong analytical skills, an attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve and make decisions based on changing conditions.
The ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of construction with aggressive timelines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Diplomacy is crucial.
Excellent organizational skills including: prioritization, scheduling, time management, and team coordination.
The ability to interact with all levels of a project team, from client senior management to design team to contractor.
Manage up to 8 luxury retail projects (lighting component only) from SD - CA phases (i.e. thru project completion and final lighting setup).
Leading an internal team of up to 3 people: project manager (yourself), senior lighting designer, and production assistant. Working closely with our in-house team to produce documentation; the project manager will be responsible for some drawing production (RCPs, lighting details, etc).
Manage day-to-day communication and information exchange with the client and the design team.
Attend meetings with the client (likely in Paris), review mockups, provide on-site construction management and aiming/focusing for project openings worldwide (requires occasional short term travel 2-5 days at a time to Asia / Europe)
Review and redline light fixture submittals / shop drawings
Review and redline construction documents issued by the design team for compliance with each brand’s lighting design guidelines.
