GENERAL DUTIES

  • Supports and consults with faculty, students, and others in the use of instructional systems, software, and programs.
  • Provides day-to-day support for users of instructional systems
  • May supervise a College help desk related to academic technology, supervising and training staff
  • Designs, develops, and delivers training and orientation sessions on the use of instructional technologies
  • May serve as an administrator and/or account coordinator for one or more systems
  • Assists in demonstrating the practical application of computers and communications technology for classes and workshops for faculty or students
  • May track problem reports, troubleshoot reported issues, and document resolutions
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The School of Technology and Design seeks a full-time Technology Specialist to join our dynamic cross-disciplinary programs.  NYCCT is committed to maintaining up-to-date technologies, including state-of-the-art computer and fabrication labs with the latest software and tools utilized in the field. The school's commitment was recognized by the National Science Foundation with a $900,000 Advanced Technology Education grant, which is supporting program development and faculty training. The departments in the School of Technology and Design offer upper-level electives in specialized areas of study, including advanced construction technologies and materials, building information modeling, advanced computation and fabrication, building performance and sustainable design, and existing building technologies. Position responsibilities include the scheduling and supervision of 20+ part-time technical staff for classroom, shop/lab, and student support related to fabrication and digital media resources, including the following:

  • Maintain familiarity with new developments in architecture and engineering related software and hardware, and assist in evaluating options
  • Collaborate with faculty and industry advisors to assess needs and develop curriculum
  • Coordinate/assist with special projects (exhibitions, symposia), outreach /public relations, and relationships with advisors/industry partners
  • Organize and oversee workshops, online tutorials, and tutoring schedules   
  • Develop training materials and guidelines for support staff, and carry out training
  • Set up HTML or other web-based support pages for the computer labs and shops
  • Train and supervise lab and shop monitors, and manage work flow
  • Oversee troubleshooting of related software for computer labs and of shop equipment
  • Assist faculty and students, organizing and providing basic training in equipment use
  • Manage fabrication lab and wood shop, including system documentation, maintenance, tutorials for machine use, and safety protocols
  • Facilitate effective communications with faculty, staff, and students relative to technology resources
  • Identify appropriate databases, systems and procedures for management and tasking; facilitate implementation

    
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
    
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Familiar with policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the safe and effective operation of shops and computer laboratories. Proficiency with parametric modeling in Grasshopper, as well as laser cutter, CNC mill, and 3D printing operations. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills necessary for managing and training. Ability to establish work priorities and carry out duties with minimal supervision.  

Preferred Qualifications:  Masters of Architecture and four years of computational, shop, and management experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience developing tutorials and managing web content preferred. Knowledge of Revit is a plus.
    
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
