The Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) is a leading international partnership practicing contemporary architecture, urbanism, and cultural analysis. The counterpart to OMA’s architectural practice is AMO, a design and research studio operating in the fields of media, politics, fashion, technology and curation. To direct a range of projects throughout the world, OMA maintains offices in Rotterdam, New York, Beijing, and Hong Kong. OMA is seeking applicants for the above position in our New York office, which focuses on the Americas, however also executes projects in other parts of the world.The Chef de Bureau of the New York office is responsible for project management, business development, contract negotiations, resource planning and coordination of the design and project teams. The New York office runs 5-10 projects of various size and scope simultaneously, ranging from concept designs to projects nearing completion.
The Chef de Bureau is an authoritative, expert architect who will proactively create new business, negotiate contracts, plan and drive an efficient workflow, distribute resources, actively support all teams with technical and design issues, and implement organizational and procedural improvements accordingly. You report to the Partner in charge of the New York office and will liaise with the Project Managers and Project Architects of the New York office, and the support departments based in the main office in Rotterdam. The candidate will also be called on to act as a Project Manager, in collaboration with a Project Architect on specific projects as the demands of the office require.
Requirements:
- Thorough understanding of the intricacies of a large architectural operation
- 10 years minimum experience in internationally renowned offices
- Masters degree in architecture, design or master planning
- Licensed Architect, New York is preferred
- LEED accreditation is preferred
- Experience in all phases of design, with track record of completed projects
- Highly developed skills in client communications, contract administration, project scheduling, team leadership, building design, technical detailing, consultant coordination, construction administration
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in writing proposals and reports
- Experience in resource planning and project management
- Personable, with a hands-on approach
- Self-disciplined and confident in a complex environment
Further qualifications:
- Fluent English required; Spanish is a definite asset.
- Good understanding of the economic and political environments in which OMA operates
- Skilled in AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite
- US work permit
