Anthropologie

The goal of Anthropologie Store Design is to create fiscally responsible, brand-equity building stores to define and differentiate them in the global retail marketplace. The stores and fixtures are the base layer, which must support the ever-changing display and merchandise over their 10+ year life cycle. As such, stores must be both timeless and adaptable, designed in a way that reflects the Brand ethos. Each store is site specific, inspired by the area vernacular and/or culture, yet also bring the world to that local customer. The stores create a transformative experience from the outside environment, a sanctuary that encourages exploration, sense of discovery and community.

In absence of Brand mass marketing, storefronts act as billboards, brand ethos distilled in a focused composition of texture, color and materiality. When outside of a historical setting, the designs strive to distinguish themselves from other retailers and the surrounding architecture. The goal is to surprise and delight the customer by transforming the existing site into something that is both unimaginable and uniquely Anthropologie.  There is also a strong desire to utilize and integrate into historic structures.  These sites are retained and often improved to bring them back to their former glory, exposing and celebrating the existing character.

The store design supports the visual display and most importantly the product.  The internal structure of stores allows for various opportunities to create merchandising stories for home and apparel. They are developed in a way to allow for an ever-changing environment to be executed by the store visual team.  The customer experience can be unique every time she visits the store. A range of design devices are used to create rooming, including changes in floor material, ceiling height, fixed walls and natural light.
