Graduate Thesis Project - Centro Cultural de la Ciudad de México

As the culmination of my education, this final project served as an emotional and spiritual reflection of my heritage and culture. As a graduate student I was fortunate enough to study various cultures and eras, but my respect for history and my own culture guided my decision to take on the challenge of reviving the historical district of Mexico City through the renovation of the great Aztec Temple. Below is the concept for this modern revival.

"The Centro Cultural is a modern skeleton and tribute to the great Aztec Civilization that founded the metropolis that is now Mexico City. It is an experience for all visitors to feel, understand, and learn to appreciate the grandness of the Aztec culture that once ruled the valley of Mexico. In an effort to revive a culture that has been buried, the new Centro Cultural has been designed to emulate the vast and monumental Aztec structure, the Templo Mayor, that was once the center of the whole civilization. In order to do so, visitors will be greeted with this new structure and its modern architecture. People will be able to visually experience the height, the magnitude, and the beauty.

The complete experience designed at the Centro Cultural will revive a portion of the city that had been hidden from the public for far too long. This project will be the missing link to an area filled with spiritual importance, signified by the great Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral that neighbors the ruins, and the governmental role of the Country, through the National Palace, which stand tall across the new steel and transparent structure. This tripartite will become the center of the city and the seed of future growth, economy, and the society of Mexico City."
