Harvard Pilgrim Institute

Harvard Pilgrim Institute's new 55,000 square foot office space at Landmark Center was designed with the goal of providing a wide range of meeting space options within close proximity of all employee workspaces. Space requirements ranged from small, private "one on one" meeting spaces, to informal break areas and large flexible conference facilities with multi-function AV infrastructure. Meeting spaces are gathered around the circulation core as well as interspersed within pods of interior offices so that natural light fro the perimeter is able to penetrate into the open office environment. By providing many different meeting settings with various levels of privacy, the space allows for fluid interaction among the different research teams. In addition, the office layout is open and flexible and allows for growth and change as the different departments evolve. Wall color, LVT flooring and exposed ceiling all serve to highlight the central core as a common gathering space for the organization, which includes a reception area, conference spaces, a main café, a satellite break area and several touch down spots with soft seating and break out furniture.

HPI's prior office space was separated on two different floors and lacked the connection that is so crucial to any organization. Not only did the move unite HPI on one floor, the overall plan layout further emphasizes movement and a sense of community through the central circulation core that stitches together common areas like meeting areas, cafés and reception. The resulting space is open and flowing, yet offers the private meeting spaces that are crucial for the organization to function effectively. The end result is a modern, bright, functional workplace characterized by vibrant colors and a sense of openness and connectivity. In addition, energy performance, sustainable materials and construction practices allowed the space to achieve LEED Silver Certification.
