What exactly is an ordering system in architecture?

HeyImNew

Hey guys, I am unclear of what exactly is an ordering system in architecture in terms of modernism. can you help me explain this? Thank you very much.

not too mysterious. it's just simply a way - any way, really - of establishing an overall order in thinking about the work. it could be structural order, spatial order, whatever.

while a project could possibly exist with no ordering system whatsoever, it would likely be difficult to describe, represent, construct, etc.

The best example I can give are the vaults on Kahn's Kimbell Art Museum.
