grew up w/ #4, but i'll take any of 5 + i used to go this little hasidic restaurant when in williamsburg and the stuff was good in tiny dishes.

personal-story-flash;
so, me and my gf sitting there in the hasidim restaurant, i muslim she jew. these guys came in and didn't want to sit next to us because of our non ortho-ey appearance. owner, of course himself a hasidic, promptly told the bozos they can go elsewhere. fuck yea he said that...

One of the beauties of the jpeg du jour thread is posting an image in response to what I thought was the last page of the thread, only to see that it still fits nicely in its new position.

A couple of things that make me happy:

-familiar faces making a return to post after a hiatus (hi, Tim de Coster!)

-new people who actually search before starting a new topic.

Also,
-listening to really absurd dance music right before I go to bed. It goes well with the mixed drinks I had this evening. Dunno, don't ask me.

I think the grad school thread is having babies now.

more comments on the grad school thread.

i'm thinking all but a very few of the new members posting there will not be heard from after this is all figured out. The archinectiquette of not using this site like an instant messanger will once again be honored and we will return to our regularly scheduled programming.

i say they need a nickname, something akin to 'leafers'.

suggestions?

The "Autocad commands that could be names for rap stars" thread awhile ago was pretty damn funny.

I saw Vado's pic and I thought it was a comment on the genetic makup of the all-white class, so it goes to show that almost anything will fit in there. I do get annoyed by the posting of images in there that are the kind my brother emails me thinking it's funny.

a fwd mail i've got from a dear friend who had several surgeries regarding cancer.

A wonderful Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider Freeways , but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less,
we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families,
more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense,
more knowledge, but less judgment,
more experts, yet more problems,
more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly,
laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry,
stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much,
and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less.
We plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies
than ever,
but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men
and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce,
fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality,
one night stands, overweight bodies,
and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window
and nothing in the stockroom.
A time when technology can bring this letter to you,
and a time when you can choose
either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones,
because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe,
because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you,
because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart
and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones,
but most of all mean it.
A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will
not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share
the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by
the moments that take our breath away.

The Steven/vado posting of Steely Dan lyrics is hilarious though also baffling to me. I've gotta get you two guys in a room together I'd be laughing coke through my nose the whole time.

The midwest meetups have been fun, I keep thinking about the AIA convention this year, maybe, in which case abra you are #1 on my list and we'll see who else we can gather. But I'm not sure it will work this year.

The spawning of school v. school threads is ridiculous, but I love the Lane Tech one!! Some seriously hilarious and intelligent people here.

I am happy to say I still remain blissfully ignorant of the recent rash of grad school threads, as I haven't even glanced sideways at a one. Is the entertainment worth it, or will it just disgust or frustrate me? I have no intentions of grad school any time remotely soon, but good TV is good TV ....

Oh yeah, what's up with the 'smashing photos' guy? Doesn't seem to be the blatant ad I first thought it was, as he seems to be volunteering. And he says 'smashing' in both posts, so thats cool I guess.
