Would this structural concept stand in extreme weather conditions?

scottdineen

I am designing a large scale spherical venue and I am wondering if this design is unrealistic. Reinforced with the most stable support beams and plate material possible throughout the sphere and at the base, how would it stand over time and in extremely high wind? I hope it wouldn't roll away!

You mean for the snow on the inside?

Looks more like a gumball machine to me Z1111

Seriously though Scott. It's a snow-globe, maybe reconsider that?

However I hate to be critical and unhelpful... so consider geodesic domes, stadium trusses or maybe even inflatable structures. All depends what you are going for.

Is this a studio project?

Perhaps learn from precedents:

Sorry, I was unnecessarily harsh.

Acoustics will be important as well as the type of structure.

I'd like to see the system required to shake the snow globe.

I don't think that structural glass would be able to support the sphere. You will need some sort of interior structure to hold it up. You will probably end up with a geodesic dome. Look up Buckminster Fuller's Montréal Biosphère or Disney's Spaceship Earth at Epcot.

Looks like a job for PTFE, perhaps.
