Used to get bonus at last company, haven't been here long enough for it. Josh, where in Norway? Stavanger, Oslo or Bergen?

Lofoten Islands for sure. May do Iceland after that. Going to drive some of the tourist routes, do some hiking, visit Steven Holl's Hamsun Museum. I've been to Oslo and Bergen on a previous trip (had a research fellowship to study Sverre Fehn's work).

We have completely open books, except for salary.  Our firm takes 20% of profit for retained earnings.  Of the remaining money 50% of the profit goes to ownership and they divide the rest proportionally according to salary.  If we kick ass in earnings and collection we do well.  If we earn but don't collect we don't.  If we don't earn and we don't collect, well then I guess we find new jobs.

Our two largest projects are on hold due to factors entirely out of our control.  We provided small bonuses out of of own pockets, as a sign of appreciation and a show of a leap of faith. They weren't what we'd like or what our staff would hope, and we hope we can supplement them soon.  All firms are different. Things are trending well for most, and yet setbacks happen even in good times.

Best time to change jobs is after the New Year. You hand your notice as soon as you get your bonus paycheck.
