Architecture textbooks

Hi

I am an architecture novice with a keen interest in your profession.

I would like to know more about the field of architecture - everything from the terminology in your field, to the challenges architects face (both at the project development and client ends of the spectrum), to the complex preparations, calculations, etc. that are part of any project.

My interest is primarily in high-rise and large-scale buildings. Being a novice, I am not sure whether the above challenges are completely different when designing a private home as compared to an 80-storey office/residential building (though I imagine they probably are).

Does anyone have suggestions on a good textbook that can give an insight into all these things? Is there perhaps a "must read" book for anyone studying to be an architect.

I appreciate any and all suggestions, and look forward to knowing more about your profession.

Thanks!
