STC 35 Apartment Entry Doors

Archiholic1

Does anybody know of a STC 35 FRSC door that can be used with a granite saddle at apartment entries (in NYC)? All I have been finding are doors with specialty saddles that are not attractive nor look to be durable.

Thanks - A

A STC Rated door is an STC Rated door - see the link below to what Mohawk says on the matter.

http://www.mohawkdoors.com/Brochures/Doors_of_Mohawk.pdf

In order to maintain some of the integrity of the rating you'll need sound seals and a door bottom, but there is no reason this can't be done with a granite sill.  Simply specify a mortised door bottom.

As a reminder there is a difference between the published rating and a tested assembly.  Installation, sealing and all your other components will have a huge impact on the actual performance of your system, regardless of the doors individual rating.

You actually need the TL value of the door and the wall and fine the combined transmission loss through the entire assembly. I cannot imagine why you would want to specify a door with a lower STC rating than your wall... Anyway- once your get the combined TL value (this is a measure of sound pressure- a higher number indicates a more robust assembly) you can convert it to STC... There are tables that do that for you. If this calculation is for a door between dwellings, the stc value of the assembly should be a minimum of 50.
