Kids, what is the major problem with locating your bricks as shown?
Think about means and methods (not an AIA problem), just for people who care about how the built environment is executed, Architects like myself, but how do you repoint such brick?
What types of tools you need? Is it standard?
Me contractor said he found tie-backs at about every 4' feet, and these lintels were deflected, scary - but it's been in place for 80 years!
tintt, yes over time the horizontal grout lines were gone or removable with your fingers. the vertical grout lines as you approached the lintels were wider.
everything was repointed. the horizontal one color, the vertical another.
carrera, you are correct to a degree, back when it was built hammer and chisel were the tools. now it's grinders and for this job the GC had to customize all his tools.

....so now to a brick assembly that will get tricky in the future - or you will just have to use a hammer and chisel

in between...in the recessed bricks...It would be very difficult to get in there...especially with a grinder...
Olaf, is this project an AIA award winner? They love that kinda stuff.
What is wrong? There are places for water to sit and seep into the joints.
Funny, an unlicensed guy would never do something like this.
In times past pointing was done with hammer & chisel which is probably what's needed here, just remember you don't need to point everything.

Aren't those panels? Are they even repointable?
aha, so its not really brick? its decorative? but lets say the grout lines fail, they will eventually,then what?
