Architectural/urban design jobs for women

salma82

I would say that this world has still very far behind in allowing women to fully take part in this field. The life of a female architect becomes more difficult when she becomes mom, as she can't spend the hours on her profession as the males can. What would be your advice to such moms who want to work but can't due to personal limitations. Or in other words how can she practice it at her home.

It would be advantageous to position yourself with a firm prior to becoming a mom and then become a consultant to that company and work part time.

If that's not an option, reach out to home builders and small developers who don't need someone with a big office. Call General Contractors who do Design/Build Work and offer to provide a fee proposal for services the next time they have a client who needs an architect.

Go to networking events and talk to people from firms and ask if they know of any firms who are hiring consultants(part time).
