Schmidt hammer lassen architects pre-qualified to design ‘Fremtidens Sølund’ – Denmark’s largest welfare centre

Schmidt hammer lassen architects along with Mangor & Nagel, Kristine Jensen Landscape, Balslev engineers and consultant Rikke Gregersen has pre-qualified to design a new 38,000m2 welfare centre in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Fremtidens Sølund (The Future Sølund) will be a ground breaking new kind of welfare architecture for communities across generations, a community centrally in the city and a project for all of Copenhagen.

The prestigious project which will be Denmark’s largest welfare centre, located on Copenhagen’s central lakes offering student housing, a collective housing scheme for senior citizens, a day care institution and care homes.

The competition is organized by Samvirkende Boligselskaber (SAB), KAB and the City of Copenhagen. A total of five teams pre-qualified from the original 22 submissions, the four other teams are lead by Henning Larsen Architects, C. F. Møller, Arkitema and Kant architects. The winning proposal will be announced in February 2016.
