Stevens & Wilkinson, Inc., a full-service commercial architecture, engineering and interior design firm based in Columbia, S.C. and Atlanta, today announced the appointment of Janice Wittschiebe, AIA, NCIDQ, LEED AP, a principal / vice president based in the Atlanta office, to the firm’s Board of Directors. Wittschiebe will serve as Stevens & Wilkinson Board of Directors’ vice president, effective immediately.

The second woman appointed to the board since its inception in 1969 and the firm’s nearly-100-year history, Wittschiebe’s new board role will involve contributing to leadership decisions regarding strategic planning, finances and personnel for both of the firm’s offices.

“Janice is one of the most well-respected architects in the State of Georgia. She has dedicated countless hours to the profession and the state, and she has been responsible for a number of award-winning design commissions,” says, Bill Clark, AIA LEED AP, president, Stevens & Wilkinson, Georgia. “As a female architect, she has blazed the trail for younger female architects.”

The board appointment for Wittschiebe, in part, is an indication of the importance of inclusiveness and diversity in the Stevens & Wilkinson work place.

An active member of the firm’s management team, and a registered architect, interior designer and LEED-accredited professional, Wittschiebe is principal-in-charge of numerous Education, Corporate and Recreation sector projects at all times. She oversees marketing activities for both offices, providing organization and cohesiveness between the offices and instituting accountability, and is an existing member and senior vice president on the firm’s separate Georgia Board of Directors.

Wittschiebe has been providing professional services for more than 30 years as a project designer, project manager and principal for multi-faceted projects. For 22 years, Wittschiebe held a principal role at her former firm, Richard Wittschiebe Hand, where she managed a similar scope of work and leadership as her current position with Stevens & Wilkinson. When the two firms merged in 2014, she was considered for the overall management board.

“Janice’s extensive professional knowledge as well as her active participation on multiple, external advisory boards and tireless community service, made her an obvious choice for appointment to the Stevens & Wilkinson board,” says Clark. “Her leadership in both local and state activities of The American Institute of Architects (AIA), has yielded her great experience that equates to the position and has allowed her to hit the ground running.”

Wittschiebe’s current external board involvement includes Georgia Institute of Technology Foundation Board of Trustees; Georgia Institute of Technology College of Design Advisory Board; Emory Board of Visitors; and State Licensing Board for Architects and Interior Designers.

Notable current projects for which Wittschiebe is providing leadership include the Georgia Institute of Technology Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Administrative Tower renovation in Atlanta and the Auburn Gavin Engineering Research Laboratory renovation at Auburn University. Her completed project work is broad and spans architecture, design or project management for such projects as The Lovett School’s Student Counseling, College Counseling and Admissions Center renovation, Atlanta; Piedmont North Student Dining Addition for Georgia State University, Atlanta; ASHRAE renovation, Atlanta; Faith Lutheran Church and School, Marietta, Ga.; and many others.

Wittschiebe earned a Bachelor of Science, Architecture in 1978 and Master of Architecture in 1980 from Georgia Institute of Technology.
