RICHMOND, VA (August 27, 2013) – Baskervill is pleased to announce that the Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Wilmington, Delaware, completed last year, has achieved LEED Silver certification.

Baskervill designed a new vehicle maintenance facility for the center and updated its reserve training facility. Throughout the design process, Baskervill used a variety of strategies to create a functional, dynamic building while maintaining LEED Silver standards, including:

• Reusing parts of the existing building such as walls, floors, and roof;
• The use of rapidly renewable materials for interior finishes;
• A design that maximized natural light and exterior views;
• An energy-efficient and optimized HVAC system;
• The use of low-emitting sealants and adhesives.

This certification exemplifies Baskervill's continued dedication to forward-thinking "green" design.

"Baskervill's commitment to sustainable design made it easy to create a solution for the Marine Corps that met the federal government requirements for LEED Silver Certification," said Ray Trevillian, AIA, vice president and director of advanced technologies group.

The U.S Green Building Council's LEED rating system offers four certification levels for new construction—Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—that correspond to the number of points accrued in five green design categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.

Other LEED projects for Baskervill include the Platinum Cooper Vineyards Tasting Room in Louisa, Virginia, the first certified tasting room in the state; the Gold W.M. Jordan's headquarters addition in Richmond, Virginia; the Silver Hyatt Dulles Hotel and Executive Meeting Center; Community Kitchen, a certified kitchen facility for Meals on Wheels and the Central Virginia Food Bank in Richmond, Virginia; and the Wilderness Road State Park Visitor Center in Ewing, Virginia, which was the Virginia Department of Conservation's first certified project.
