What About the Lecture / Exhibition?
The School of Architecture of the Universidad de Puerto Rico will hold the 25th of January  WAI Architecture Think Tank’s lecture followed by the opening of the exhibition “What About It?: WAI Architecture Think Tank at the UPR.”
The Lecture, exhibition and accompanying publication will display a collection of the visual provocations, graphic narratives, architectural research and projects produced by WAI since 2008. “What About It?” features 14 of WAI’s published, on-going and unreleased projects, represented through animations, collages, drawings, story boards, magazines, and twelve scale models. What About It? will be on view on the gallery of the School of Architecture.

What About WAI?
WAI Architecture Think Tank is an international studio practicing architecture, urbanism, and architectural research. Founded in Brussels in 2008 by French architect Nathalie Frankowski and Puerto Rican architect Cruz Garcia WAI is currently based in Beijing. WAI focuses on the understanding and execution of Architecture from a panoramic approach, from theoretical texts to architectural artifacts, narrative architectures, buildings and urban and cultural conditions. WAI strives to make significant contributions to the collective intelligence of architecture, from the conception of intelligent buildings and masterplans to the production of fresh research projects, provocative pieces of visual art, and innovative publications. WAI is a workshop for architecture intelligentsia. WAI asks: What About It?

 

What About the Authors?
Nathalie Frankowski is a French Architect, graphic artist, and writer who graduated in 2008 from the department of Architecture, Art and Philosophy at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette with a Diplome d’État d’Architecture option research. Her final project “It Feels Like Home: Chez-soi entre nature et densité” received the special mention from the jury. In 2008 she co-founded WAI Architecture Think Tank, as a workshop for urban and architectural intelligentsia. Professional and academic experience includes international publications, research, film making, design workshops and working in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, and China. The architectural, graphic, and written works of Nathalie have been featured in exhibitions, and publications around the world.

Cruz García is a Puerto Rican Architect, graphic artist, and writer who graduated in 2008 from the Universidad de Puerto Rico with a Master Degree in Architecture after earning the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for outstanding leadership and the Henry Adams Medal for the Highest Degree. His research thesis about Narrative Architectures in the 20th century earned him the PBDT thesis scholarship from the highest scholar institution in Puerto Rico. In 2008 he co-founded WAI Architecture Think Tank, as a workshop for urban and architectural intelligentsia. Previous professional and academic experience includes international publications, research, teaching, lectures, and working in Belgium, The Netherlands, Puerto Rico, USA, France, and China. The architectural, graphic, and written works of Cruz have been featured in exhibitions, and publications around the world.

La escuela de arquitectura de la Universidad de Puerto Rico celebrara el 25 de enero de 2012 la conferencia de WAI Architecture Think Tank seguida por la inauguración de la exhibición “What About It?: WAI Architecture Think Tank en la UPR”
La Conferencia, exposición y la publicación acompañante muestran una selección de las provocaciones visuales, narrativas gráficas, y proyectos de investigación arquitectónica producidos por WAI desde su fundación en el 2008. “What About It?” cuenta con 15 proyectos publicados, en desarrollo e inéditos, presentados a través de collages, dibujos, story boards, revistas y fotografías.
What About It? abrirá al público el 25 de enero de 2012 después de la conferencia dictada por WAI.


WAI
WAI Architecture Think Tank es un estudio internacional que práctica arquitectura, urbanismo e investigación arquitectónica. Fundado en Bruselas en 2008 por la arquitecta francesa Nathalie Frankowski y el arquitecto puertorriqueño Cruz García, WAI práctica actualmente desde Beijing.
WAI se especializa en el entendimiento y la ejecución de la arquitectura desde una perspectiva panorámica que oscila entre textos teóricos, artefactos arquitectónicos, arquitecturas narrativas, edificios y condiciones urbanas y culturales. WAI concentra sus esfuerzos en realizar contribuciones significativas que puedan contribuir a la inteligencia colectiva de la arquitectura, desde la concepción de edificios y planes urbanos inteligentes, hasta la proyección de investigaciones inéditas, provocadoras creaciones artísticas y publicaciones innovadoras.
Entre los proyectos recientes de WAI se encuentran la publicación de la primera revista monográfica de WAI “What About It? Part 1” (parte de la colección de la Biblioteca Nacional de Arte del Victoria & Albert Museum en Londres) publicaciones en múltiples revistas internacionales, exposiciones individuales y conferencias en Beijing y exposiciones en grupo en la Architectural Association en Londres y en el Superfront Gallery en Los Angeles.

Nathalie Frankowski es una arquitecta francesa, artista y escritora graduada en el 2008 del departamento de Arquitectura, Arte y Filosofía en la École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette con un Diploma de Estado con opción en investigación. Su proyecto de final de grado “It Feels Like Home: Chez-soi entre nature et densité” recibió la mención especial del jurado.
En 2008 cofundó WAI Arquitectura Think Tank, como un taller para la inteligencia urbana y arquitectónica. Experiencia profesional y académica incluye publicaciones internacionales, investigación, film experimental, talleres de diseño y trabajo en Bélgica, Países Bajos, Francia y China. Los proyectos arquitectónicos, gráficos, y escritos de Nathalie han sido presentados en exposiciones y publicaciones alrededor del mundo.

 

Cruz García es un arquitecto puertorriqueño, artista y escritor graduado en el 2008 de la Universidad de Puerto Rico con una Maestría en Arquitectura después de obtener la medalla Alpha Rho Chi por su destacado liderazgo estudiantil y la Medalla Henry Adams para el primer promedio de su clase graduada. Su tesis de investigación sobre las arquitecturas narrativas en el siglo 20 le ganó la beca del Programa de Becas de Disertación y Tesis del DEGI en la Universidad de Puerto Rico.
En 2008 cofundó WAI Arquitectura Think Tank, como un taller para la intelectualidad urbana y arquitectónica.Experiencia profesional y académica incluye publicaciones internacionales, investigación, docencia, conferencias, y trabajar en Bélgica, Holanda, Puerto Rico, EE.UU., Francia y China. Los proyectos arquitectónicos, gráficos, y escritos de Cruz han sido presentados en exposiciones y publicaciones alrededor del mundo.
