Turner Construction Corporate Office

KMA Architecture was hired by Turner Construction Co., in collaboration with ID Studios Inc., to design their new San Diego Headquarters.  The project was more than a  transformation of a dated industrial building into a new vibrant and thoughtful space; it was also a symbolic transformation of a company’s office culture towards the future and a new working style through design.
COLLABORATION | KMA Architecture collaborated with ID Studios to develop a
concept that was rooted in Turner’s 100–year history but looks forward in its design
execution. An extensive program analysis by ID Studios and the collaboration effort
at early stages by all team members was critical to the process.
DESIGN | KMA designed the entry using simple geometric forms in stained wood
cladding to set the tone for the honest and straightforward space within. This wood
clad feature continues inside the entry lobby and becomes an eye-catching backdrop
at the reception area and a recurring material throughout space. The large open
office with its natural light, bright colors and transparencies clearly invoke the new
culture of the company.
NEW OFFICE CULTURES | Some of the new office concepts employed in this plan
are: workstations for remote employees, an open office with small break out areas,
high visibility of management and meetings, and a lot of daylighting.
SUSTAINABILITY | Pursuing LEED Gold under the ID+C category.
