Barbizon

Once home to Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly, Candice Bergen and Liza Minnelli, CetraRuddy has converted the former 700-room Barbizon Hotel for Women to luxury residences. Bordering the Upper East Side Historic District, the 210,000 SF building is listed in the national register of historical places, and is currently under consideration for New York City Landmark status. The renovation included re-pointing the façade as well as a complete window replacement and enlargement, which added dramatic French casement windows to maximize natural light and capitalize on the views. The conversion also restored rich details such as the cloistered sky terraces bordered by arches and arcades, Corinthian pillars and Art Deco towers. Mechanical and elevator services were relocated, restoring the rosette and stained glass windows and expanding rentable area by 20,000 SF. The new layouts feature spacious living areas, galleries, libraries, eat-in-kitchens and dramatic duplex homes.
