On the Upper West Side of New York, Workshop/apd transformed a grand pre-war apartment with sweeping views of Central Park into a thoroughly modern residence. Distinctly contemporary materials such as weathered bronze and translucent glass synthesize with preserved elements of the original architecture to suit the 21st century lifestyle of a busy professional couple. Throughout the apartment, hefty bronze and glass pocket doors and sliding wood panels can be opened to create a lofty interior or drawn close to partition off private spaces—a dynamic environment replacing the static chambers of the original apartment.
