New School - Copenhagen

‘Manage resources to gain more space for learning’ - is the driving force behind the concept for the extension & refurbishment of Grønhøj Skolen in Høje Taastrup about 20 Kilometers from Copenhagen.

Focusing on respecting the heritage of the original building & gaining daylight has been an essential part of the rehabilitation. To pursue a new identity, the extension has three minor cones. The top void of each main cone creates skylights. The visible skylights & continuous walls of the main cone adds an organic character & clearly demonstrates the reason for their special design. In contrast to a square room, the cone has a distinct enclosed effect thanks to its natural shape without right-angles. Continuous shapes like those of the Museum, emphasize the child’s freedom of movement thus promoting flexibility.
