Design Exchange

Pawtucket holds a special place in history for designers and innovators. As the birth place of the industrial revolution, it is conveniently located north of Providence and is within the Providence Metro Area. Pawtucket is also within commuting distance of Boston. In the last few years Pawtucket has become an attractive home for a growing number of artist and design professionals. Artists and design professionals are now rediscovering Pawtucket’s historic mills and developing live/work communities to foster collaboration and innovation in the design industry. The Design Exchange is a renovated historic mill located in the heart of the Exchange Street Historic District in Pawtucket, RI. Developed and renovated by LLB Architects, the west wing building is the last piece of the puzzle in

rehabilitating this important area of the city. The mill sits within the city’s arts district, which is simultaneously a state-recognized arts zone which includes the Pawtucket Armory Center for the Arts, the Sandra Feinstein Gamm Theatre and the Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Artists, graphic designers and nationally renowned interior design firm Morris Nathanson Design fill the connected Blackstone Studios building. Named for its collaborative potential and location on Exchange Street, The Design Exchange will join the existing artistic community, celebrating the area’s industrial past while looking towards its creative future.
