Hunters View Master Plan

As San Francisco's most distressed public housing site, Hunters View is the first project in the City's ambitious HOPE SF reconstruction program. Daniel Solomon Design Partners was selected as master planner, as overall coordinating architect and as architects for Block 4 in Phase I. An extensive community process informed the design, development program, and phasing of a 750 unit mixed-income neighborhood plan that will completely transform the quality of life for the families of Hunters View. Deteriorating barracks-like housing from the 1940s and 1950s will be replaced with a neighborhood that has the complexity, spatial definition and walkable streets of the city's historic neighborhoods. The replacement public units will be intermixed with other rental and ownership units, tripling the density and providing new, energy-efficient and healthy housing for families at a range of incomes.  New streets and pedestrian pathways will link this once-isolated site with transit, schools and neighborhood shopping.  Two new major parks capture spectacular views of downtown and the bay.  Infrastructure construction of the first phase began in February 2011.
