John McLaren Child Development Center

This new, modern 11,000 sq. ft. modular campus emphasizes the overall teaching philosophy with a blend of indoor and outdoor spaces that feature the District’s first pre-school age appropriate play structures and a creative learning environment. The overall exterior envelope is complimentary to the nearby hillside both in materials and shape. The design used two basic modules to create the 11,000 sq. ft. campus featuring 6 classrooms, multi-purpose room with warming kitchen, performance space, and an Administrative Building that houses school offices and a conference room for parents and teachers. The classrooms provide space for every type of learning style. The arranged modules created a distinctive atmosphere for learning and supervised play. The central play yard is easily supervised and the access ramp divides the play areas to establish different spaces for various age groups. The resulting edges from the curved wall generated seated areas, accounted for the grade changes, and provided another place for kids to test their motor skills.
