moving noise barrier

Noise-absorbtion concept:
The noise barrier, following a viaduct, should be built in order to protect the city of Landeck in Tyrol, close to St. Anton, from the noise-emissions of trains. About 42 trains per day cross the bridge, which means that the noise barrier is actually only needed for about two and a half hours a day. Therefore we propose a system which is moving with the train, only building-up when needed to protect the town of Landeck from the noise produced by the train. In order to achieve this we use the natural forces a train is producing when passing between two walls: compression and suction. A locomotive, moving between the noise barrier, is shoving a wave of compression which we deflect into the membrane, which is thereupon building up for about one meter, as soon as the locomotive with or without carriages is approaching. Suction, which follows the compression wave, is sucking in the membrane after the locomotive has passed. Two kinds of absorber systems are used: on the fix lower part a classical porous, broad-band high-frequency system is used. on the flexible the upper part a double-leaf angular flexible resonator system, absorbing the lower frequencies of the locomotive, is used.

Materials:
The inside of the noise barrier is clad with noise-absorbers. For the vertical absorbers already well-tried and technical excellent elements of Steinbacher (or equivalent) will be used. The outside of the noise-barrier is in contrast to the inside a metallic-shiny membrane, reflecting the scenery of Landeck. Therefore the inside of the noise-barrier system is adopting the technical, noise-absorbing function, the outside, the environmental function, since the outside of the noise barrier will be very present in the city of Landeck.
