Archi-Tectonics is an internationally recognized architectural design firm with projects completed around the world. We begin each design process with a focus on the essence of the project. We do so through a performance based, client specific study, which results in the creation of A CUSTOMIZED EXPERIENCE. We realize that human beings acquire their essence through their relations to “Form”.
We are passionate about the use of hybrid sustainable materials and smart building systems while remaining in the designated budget. Our expertise in the FTF process [file to factory] facilitates the construction of affordable, high-end design. Archi-Tectonics won the City of New York held, Design Competition for a new, sustainable waterfront development in Staten Island, NYC. Archi-Tectonics’ winning scheme employed an integrated series of systems and green materials requiring low maintenance, low energy use, high recycled content, and low environmental impact. Systems include a geothermal heating and cooling system, wind turbines, integrated photovoltaic wall panels and solar hot water heating. Our recent design for the Q-Tower in Philadelphia [55,000 sf], developed with MIT Media Lab, was designed to be a Smart Tower, incorporating geo-thermal energy, smart sensor technology and robotic systems. The envelope is designed to be 35% more energy efficient than the Department of Energy requirements. The pre-fabricated envelope fully encloses the thermal mass of the concrete floor slabs to provide maximum heating / cooling retention. The 35,000 sf LRH Building, NYC, is built for a target goal of LEED Gold. The project is conceived as the integration of high-performance systems within the re-cycled shell of the existing building. The design accommodates rainwater retention for green roofs, solar hot water heating through vacuum tubes, and soybean based sprayed-foam insulation that significantly increases envelope performance.
Some of our recently completed projects also include the 80,000 sf, 14-story American Loft Tower in Philadelphia, the 40,000 sf, 9-story Vestry Building, the 3,500 sf Chelsea Townhouse and the 60,000 sf, 11-story mixed-use GW497 Building all in Manhattan. We also recently completed the Ports1961 Flagship store in Shanghai, China, as well as two additional Ports stores in London and Paris and the MCF Academy, a pro-bono design to house, feed and educate 200 orphans in Liberia.
Currently Archi-Tectonics is in charge of a large-scale Masterplan for downtown Bogota, Colombia, as well as two mixed-use developments in Yulin and Yanxiang, China.
Winka Dubbeldam is the founder and principal of Archi-Tectonics. Dubbeldam has a Masters Degree in Architecture, Rotterdam [1990], and a 2nd Masters from Columbia University, NYC [1992]. She has lectured extensively and taught at the Masters Programs of Columbia University, NYC, Harvard, Cambridge, and Cornell, and currently holds the position of Director of the 2nd Masters Program at UPenn, Philadelphia. Winka is an external examiner for the RIBA/ARB at the Architectural Association, London, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute for Urban Design, NYC, and on the Board of Advisors for BOFFO, NYC.
