Apparatus was initiated by David Curtis in 2004 as an art and design related DBA in Nevada. Apparatus collaborated with Desert Space Foundation on a proposal for the Flight 93 Memorial.

In 2007 David Curtis gained a residential design license in Nevada.

Apparatus had a Commerce Street studio that featured the Yellow Wallpaper show by Sherie Pierce and a photography show by Richard Rasner.

Apparatus has been a vendor to Harsch Investment Properties on a series of lease plan graphics and existing conditions documents.

Apparatus collaborated with the firm DesignCell.

David Curtis is currently transitioning the firm to the California market and it will likely be re-branded as the name "apparatus" has been used by other entities in the Bay area previously.
