Arnaldo Untoria and Paul Swartz co-founded Untoria Swartz Associates in 1985, later simplifying the company name to USA Architects. Since that time, the firm appointed three additional principals: Armand Christopher, Mark Coan, and Peter Campisano The firm found success early on, outgrew three locations, before settling centrally in Somerville, New Jersey. The firm expanded with offices in Newark, New Jersey, Easton, Pennsylvania for a combined total 39 employees.
USA’s mission has primarily remained the same for nearly a quarter of a century yet we recognize the world has experienced significant events that require us to examine our profession and the places that we work with a different set of eyes. Our fearless creativity seeks design opportunities within the context of each project and requires of us to accept responsibility to meet our client’s economic parameters. We continue to maintain design plurality rather than uniformity that results in a diverse portfolio of varying market segments. USA continues to be a leader in the design of sustainable buildings, pursuing LEED® certification or just good design practices.
We believe that our focus on service has contributed to the firm’s growth and can be attested to by our long standing relationships with many of our existing clients. Although the recent development of our strategic plan has restructured the firm’s organization, our culture has remained a relaxed, professional environment where employees enjoy collaborating both in and outside the office. The firm’s structure encourages growth from within and is the desired path for ownership transition over the next decade. Our goal is to grow from a firm of over 50 to 100 professionals while expanding our current offices and market segments in New Jersey and Pennsylvania along with the establishment of other regional offices in the Northeast.
