This restoration&nbsp;marks the start of Howard University&rsquo;s <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150304092/howard-university-announces-historic-785-million-investment-to-revitalize-campus" target="_blank">$785 million Central Campus Master Plan</a>, the largest campus development project in the school&rsquo;s history.</p> <p>As noted by Howard University, preservation and sustainability are at the core of the institution&rsquo;s real estate development initiatives. When renovations are complete, the Miner Building will serve as a shared space for the university's School of Education and Middle School of Mathematics and Science.&nbsp;</p> <p>Work will be conducted mainly on the building&rsquo;s interior. Significant architectural features, such as the building&rsquo;s two-story arched windows, limestone baseboards in corridors, and two grand staircases that rise from the ground floor to the second floor, are being preserved.&nbsp;<br></p> <figure><p><a href="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/74/749351d508c0c7f717afeaed4193ad50.jpeg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=1028" target="_blank"><img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/74/749351d508c0c7f717afeaed4193ad50.jpeg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=514"></a></p><figcaption>Previously on Archinect: <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150304092/howard-university-announces-historic-785-million-investment-to-revitalize-campus" target="_blank">Howard University an...</a></figcaption></figure> https://archinect.com/news/article/150331725/steven-holl-completes-rubenstein-commons-at-the-institute-for-advanced-study-in-princeton-nj Steven Holl completes Rubenstein Commons at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ Josh Niland 2022-11-30T13:16:00-05:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00 <img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/69/69fd4627929db2b27c9a1abae0c1655a.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p><a href="https://archinect.com/stevenholl" target="_blank">Steven Holl Architects</a> has reached another milestone following the completion of the new Rubenstein Commons at the <a href="https://www.ias.edu/" target="_blank">Institute for Advanced Study</a> (IAS) in Princeton, New Jersey, in late October.</p> <p>The new 17,175-square-foot building provides the 92-year-old IAS with much-needed modern facilities while serving as a social condenser for researchers and the broader academic community.&nbsp;</p> <figure><p><a href="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/46/462f5ed17de34022dbe3fcf282d68476.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=1028" target="_blank"><img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/46/462f5ed17de34022dbe3fcf282d68476.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=514"></a></p><figcaption>Photo: Paul Warchol, image courtesy of Steven Holl Architects.</figcaption></figure><figure><p><a href="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/34/3414982a931dcfcc62809327f2daf818.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=1028" target="_blank"><img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/34/3414982a931dcfcc62809327f2daf818.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=514"></a></p><figcaption>Photo: Paul Warchol, image courtesy of Steven Holl Architects.</figcaption></figure><p>Its design is inspired by the impetus for scholarly collaboration and therefore features a series of intertwining spaces set within an undulating, low-rise volume that connects to the existing Fuld Hall building and a trio of adjacent water features located to the north, west, and south on the IAS&rsquo;s 589-acre campus.</p> <figure><p><a href="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/b2/b293228720bf55362870b1bf50af4620.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=1028" target="_blank"><img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/b2/b293228720bf55362870b1bf50af4620.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=514"></a></p><figcaption>Photo: Paul Warchol, image courtesy of Steven Holl Architects.</figcaption></figure><figure><p><a href="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/a5/a541e15033559aa0b76b1ae88ecd5b78.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=1028" target="_blank"><img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/a5/a541e15033559aa0b76b1ae88ecd5b78.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&amp;w=514"></a></p><figcaption>Photo: Paul Warchol, image courtesy of Steven Holl Architects.</figcaption></figure><p>&ldquo;By having the ability to come together, the grea...</p> https://archinect.com/news/article/150328078/maya-lin-s-second-academic-building-will-deliver-a-new-performing-arts-studio-to-bard-college Maya Lin's second academic building will deliver a new performing arts studio to Bard College Josh Niland 2022-10-26T14:19:00-04:00 >2024-03-15T01:45:58-04:00 <img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/97/979ee77243ee71fadfca3972a0a7536e.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>New York&rsquo;s <a href="https://archinect.com/schools/cover/55422644/bard-college" target="_blank">Bard College</a> has announced a new commission from architect <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/82907/maya-lin-studio" target="_blank">Maya Lin</a> that will deliver a performing arts studio building to its 540-acre Annandale-on-Hudson campus.<br></p> <p>The Vietnam Veterans Memorial designer will team with&nbsp;<a href="https://archinect.com/bialosky" target="_blank">Bialosky</a> and acoustic specialists <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/23281200/charcoalblue" target="_blank">Charcoalblue</a> to deliver a 25,000-square-foot space just west of the school&rsquo;s <a href="https://archinect.com/gehry" target="_blank">Frank Gehry</a>-designed Richard B.
