The Final Winning List of “2019 UIA-CBC International Colleges and Universities Competitive Construction Workshop"

On August 18, 2019, the "2019 UIA-CBC International Colleges and Universities Competitive Construction Workshop" closed. The Construction Workshop is hosted internationally by the International Union of Architects (UIA), co-hosted by Siyang County People’s Government, CBC (China Building Centre), and School of Architecture, Tianjin University, supported by International Urban and Rural Innovation & Development Research Center and China University of Mining and Technology. It is currently the only construction competition in China that has received official recognition and support from UIA.

PSU architecture students create new Pickathon Treeline Stage from 160 wooden apple bins

For the sixth year in a row, the Pickathon Music Festival, which opens Friday, August 2 at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, Ore., will feature a brand-new, temporary performance venue designed and built by Portland State University School of Architecture students from reused materials. This year’s rendition of the Treeline Stage utilizes 160 wooden apple-harvesting bins to create an immersive environment suggesting an orchard of towering trees—reaching 40 feet high at the tallest point.

Faculty members Travis Bell and Clive Knights have led a group of Portland State University Architecture students in the design and construction of an original, temporary Treeline Stage at Pickathon Music Festival.

AIA|LA recognizes the work of California's architecture students at the 2019 2x8:Exchange Competition

This week the American Institute of Architects Los Angeles chapterfeatures work from architecture students in California. The 2x8: Exchange is a three-pronged program that provides students the opportunity to submit their work for the competition, be apart of the student exhibition, as well as provide scholarship opportunities. Now in its 13th iteration, the competition received participation from 16 schools throughout the state to participate in the annual show. In celebration of California's unrivaled diversity in academic pedagogy and programming, each school selects two students to represent the program's ethos and vision.

Syracuse University student and faculty work: a review of Trans(inter)ference

What is iconic in architecture? It's a debate that will never be settled precisely because the definition of "icon" is perennially changing to reflect the culture from which it derives. An icon, after all, is not necessarily a classic, and this inherent tension is partly what fuels Trans(inter)ference, an installation designed by Maya Alam in collaboration with Daniele Profeta and three Syracuse University students: Emily Greer, Waralee Kaewkoon and Thomas Byung H. Kim.

Made up from repurposed VHS tape strung over a frame system that has a rectangular series of partitions and a curved awning-like flourish, the work seems to never quite come into focus due to the fluttering of the tape. This constant subtle motion means that there is no one "right" way to perceive it: each observer's experience is free from a predetermined context. In this sense, Trans(inter)ference achieves its stated goal of being "an in-between object that weaves subject, object, and context into one."
