If delivered, the scheme would be the tallest building in the world, double the height of the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/223781/burj-khalifa" target="_blank">Burj Khalifa</a>, which currently holds the title.</p> <p>According to <em>AJ</em>&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/foster-partners-behind-plans-for-2km-tall-saudi-tower" target="_blank">reporting</a>, the development is backed by Saudi Arabia&rsquo;s Public Investment Fund, with &ldquo;international design names&rdquo; such as <a href="https://archinect.com/skidmoreowingsmerrill" target="_blank">SOM</a> also previously linked to the project.
