<img src="https://archinect.gumlet.io/uploads/d1/d111b72cab1af220f49abf32e4f32db9.jpg?fit=crop&auto=compress%2Cformat&enlarge=true&w=1200" border="0" /><p>The 123-room Ace Hotel has opened in <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/1880/toronto" target="_blank">Toronto</a>, designed by acclaimed Canadian practice <a href="https://archinect.com/firms/cover/3289/shim-sutcliffe-architects" target="_blank">Shim-Sutcliffe Architects</a>, recipients of the <a href="https://archinect.com/news/article/150257142/architecture-duo-brigitte-shim-and-a-howard-sutcliffe-awarded-2021-raic-gold-medal" target="_blank">2021 RAIC Gold Medal</a>. Located in the city’s Garment District, the hotel adopts what the team calls a “robust, solid architecture” with a material palette including brick, concrete, steel, and oak.</p>

The design responds to the broad display of the city’s Bauhaus era and responds to the city's <a href="https://archinect.com/news/tag/491878/climate-engineering" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">climate challenges</a> rather than opting for another glass tower. </p>

Located in Vejle, Denmark, Fjord House is set to open on June 9th. The structure rises out of Vejle Fjord and can be accessed through Havneøen (The Harbour Island).</p>

The author and seminal California-commentator Carey McWilliams <a href="http://www.publicartinla.com/Downtown/figueroa/Pershing_Square/mcwilliams.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">remarked</a> that it took seven years of living in Los Angeles before he no longer felt in exile, and the city has struggled with a history of atomization and segregation in the 60ish years since.
