Co-organized by Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the biennale presents a variety of international studies on urbanism, through architectural, ethnographic and artistic means. True to its future-focus, the biennale will renovate former industrial sites to use as venues, including an old waterfront warehouse and a former glass factory.</p> <p> Shenzhen's rapid urban growth began in 1979, when the Chinese government named the small village a "special economic zone" for manufacturing and employment.
