VeloCity

VeloCity is a comprehensive system for helping convey information about bicycling resources to potential riders. Focusing on urban bicycle commuting, the City of Seattle was used as a case study to test both design and sociological conclusions. The program included: a new concept for the Seattle Bicycling Guide Map, BikeStops to deploy the map and other data into the urban environment, and route signage and ground markings. The approach to the materials centers around not only fully supporting route planning and route following, but also presents information in a clear, easy-to-use, and friendly tone to increase the social acceptance and excitement around bicycling.

Presented as an MFA thesis at the University of Washington in Spring 2009.

Selected as the 1st place winner in Student Environmental Sustainability and as a Judge’s Choice pick in the 2009 AIGA (Re)design Awards.

The map was eventually developed into the 2010 edition of the Seattle Bicycling Guide Map.
