Vellum Furniture Competition

The 2013 Vellum Furniture Competition boasted its tenth year of putting design into built form as the architecture program at Cal Poly SLO challenged students to craft finished pieces of custom furniture. More specific to the thesis students, we were encouraged to use this process as another form of exploration for our year-long project.

The evolution of form for my piece came a long way from its original design. Desiring to use recycled redwood rounds that I had on-hand from a previous project, I set out with the concept of: Nature Reconfigured. This embodied the way in which I was trying to take the essential elements of nature (in regards to playscape design) and reconfigure them into an urban context. Though simple in form, a high level of craft was dedicated to the finish, detail and proportion of this piece
