Modern extension of an old house near Paris

The extension project of an old house fits on a side lot line to minimize its grip on the existing garden. It was created in the background, is not visible from the street and grows on a gable of the existing house.

The project helped expand a family home by releasing the original living room transformed into rooms. The extension contains a spacious living room and a kitchen in half-level in a volume on the ground floor with a high ceiling. It is accessible from a side entrance and opens fully to the garden. The passage between the entrance is the living room is articulated by a large integrated furniture that offers a variety of uses. It hides an invisible toilet and wraps to become a complete and multifunctional furniture storage, with integrated seat.

The project creates an intimate relationship between the house and the garden by overcoming the existing base and bringing the living room at the outside level. Concrete elements painted white facades accentuate the horizontal proportions of the whole and frame the views of the garden.

The extension is made of reinforced concrete and lined with glazed bricks on an outer thermal insulation. One bedroom is located upstairs, fully glazed on a terrace overlooking the garden, and protected by a white painted wooden pergola. The glazed areas are equipped with automated blinds aluminum slats and integrated in the thickness of the walls. The various elements of the facades are balanced in a game of receding lines of an architecture that seems delicately placed in the garden.
