South by Southeast

2014 Dawntown Miami Design Build

Project Description

‘South by Southeast’ concept is a design driven marriage of the Miami’s cool past: “the magic city” of 60’s bohemia, ethnic vibes, and unchecked hedonism with the emerging cosmopolitan city; present and future.

The installation proposal is for a transportable, multi-purpose, and modular bench and canopy system that will act as a space activator and gathering space. Composed of series of 2D lattice structure, connected to form the symbol and icon of Miami, the ‘wild palm tree’, the installation will play a central role in revitalizing the under-used courtyard of the Miami Cultural Center, originally designed by Philip Johnson.
