About 

I am Ravindra Deshmukh having 37 years of experience in profession, teaching and research. Served in the North and South India, and in Africa, I  was with MIT, India for 22 years. I graduated in architecture from the Visvevsarayya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India in 1971 and did  post graduate education from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, India in 1973. I did PhD on ‘Development of Earthquake Risk Management Effectiveness Model with an Architectural Perspective’ at Manipal University in 2009.  I was the UGC Fellow to the University of Chile in South America in 1998. I was selected as the Fulbright Scholar by the United State’s Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) to teach at the North Dakota State University, USA during the fall of 2005. I served as the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) National Visiting Professor during 2006-07. Specialized in Design, I pursue  research in disaster management.  Since 2004, MIT, India has been recognized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India as the National Resource Institute for the National Program for Capacity Building of Architects in Earthquake Risk Management (NPCBAERM). I was the Coordinator of this program until 2010. I have published 34 articles and papers in conferences and journals in India abroad.

I am a certified photographer, an acclaimed writer, a member of the Union Public Service Commission’s (UPSC) Service Selection Board and on the Academic Review Committee of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) for Disaster Management. Presently, I am a professor at Dr. BN College of Architecture for Women at Pune, India. My abilities are: networking, negotiations, travel and office management.

To set up an Institute of Architecture and Planning, do preliminary work of
marketability, guiding marketing executives, designing educational program, setting up
infrastructure; university service as member Academic Council; Chairperson, Board of
Studies and member on various university bodies. Also, now I am Director-Quality
Assurance for the University and Facilitator, NAAC Preparation.

Teach subjects like Dissertation, Building Construction, Thesis Project and has a responsibility of formation of a research center for doctoral program.

After being with Symbiosis for an year as a director, I returned to my earlier employer
as Symbiosis deferred commencement of UG and PG courses under Symbiosis
School of Planning and Architecture due to certain managerial decisions.
At BNCA I am guiding PhD students, strategic inputs in the on going programs,
enhancing international reach by becoming member of US school's association and
promoting corporate style through dress code, attire, color and going for secured
access to key departments.

(Architecture) under Col. SP Wahi and completed Design of Buildings, Landscape
scheme for the Central Foundry Forge Plant, Researchers Quarters, factory main Gate
and boundary wall design; Also, worked in Construction Wing, BHEL Research &
Development at Hyderabad and did Supervision of Research Laboratory Blocks,
Tenders, Contract Procedure, Facility Management.

Lecturing and organizing design studio under South-South Cooperation, Award

The University Grants Commission, New Delhi provided funds to visit University of Chile in South America for lecturing and participating in design studios during Sept-Oct. 1999. I experienced 16 earthquake shocks in my short stay and decided to pursue this field passionately upon return.

Grant to establish Climatology Laboratory, Grant

All India Council for Technical Education gave Rs 250,000 grant to establish a laboratory having sun tracker, Laminar wind flow tunnel for study of wind movement around building models.

The Indian Institute of Architects Bangalore Chapter conferred the award for commendable service in teaching architecture.

Design Idea Award for Podecharry Housing Board's Low Cost Housing Competition., 3rd Place

113 architects participated; 17 were shortlisted and requested to participate. The team of architect-faculty members lead by me prepared the design, report and model. It was given third prize. there was no first prize given.
