Maxwell Street Market- Fall 2015

Maxwell Boat Market::

In my project, I studied the broad idea of movement in the Maxwell street market and changes on an hourly, weekly, and historical basis.
During my visits to the market I studied the surrounding buildings, the locations of the tents, and the variety of the vendors all through the lens of “movement.” This project shows how the Maxwell Street Market is shaped by change and fluidity, rather than static architecture.
I also projected this idea of “movement” to the site on an architectural and urban scale
 In my drawing, I showed each type of path in different color and I refer to the density in circles.
My physical model reflects and expresses my drawing. It also uses the idea of movement to represent neighboring buildings rather than showing their architecture, I showed them as traces of the people moving through them.
Maxwell Boat Market:
Since the main idea from my initial research was about movement, I propose moving the market onto the river.
In this case it would be everything moving including the market itself.
The existing market location is far from the city center, in an area without many people, and hard to reach.

I looked at the Chicago Architecture Boat Tour and found how it is accessible and very popular, and I thought to bring this liveliness to the market, and bring more visitors.
Also if we look at the market in a demographic way we will have clear idea how it has been changed from late 19 to early 21 century, and in my aspect moving the market through Chicago River will rich it again with diversity—so it can visit many neighborhoods in the city.
