This the first project I completed while in Copenhagen; we had a little under three weeks to design a development of 12 row houses on a creek, across from which was freetown Christiania. I approached the design as a reversal of the traditional thinking of outdoor space in the danish vernacular, where normally the program is a vertical gradient upwards from public to private. I instead elevated the primary social space to the second floor in order to create an indoor/outdoor space which overlooked the creek and greenery from above, along with the addition of a very open roof garden, while the lower level served as two private bedrooms with a circulation core through from the street to the creek.
