Ball State University Strawbale EcoCenter
I had the privilege of being one of very few landscape architecture students to take part in a project to design and construct a strawbale structure to serve as a learning outpost. The structure was sited and designed to make the most of the sun's solar rays and the cooling effects of summer breezes. The EcoCenter was constructed to be completely off-grid using solar PV panels and a wind turbine to supply electricity and solar hot water panels to heat a radient floor heating system. At the time of construction the EcoCenter was the State of Indiana's only load-bearing strawbale structure. +200 volunteer hours compiled.
