Community Spaces Scheme
A 24-story residential tower near downtown Los Angeles has loft and flats.
Each of the tower units acts as a block, though they are of differing configurations. The blocks are semi randomly arranged to give each type of unit a fair share of view and height location.
Then, communal green spaces are distributed throughout the tower to take advantage of an open space provision in the City of Los Angeles, which also allowed for gains in height, even considering height limitations.
Each green space is created by lifting the residential units in key locations, resulting in spaces of differing sizes and shapes that could be suited for a variety of amenities.
This scheme was chosen from 3 others to be further developed by the client because it was preferred by the office of the Ed Reyes, the local City Council member.
