Hajjar Competiton 2011

This project is a proposal for a small home for a musician. It is inspired from the Guqin instrument. One of the most interesting features of playing the Guqin instrument is how the player runs their hands along the strings even when the sound has disappeared creating a “space” or “void” in a piece, playing music without music, sound without sound. That inspired me to design a structure that would represent the dynamic movement of a Guqin piece, culminat- ing into a void which represents the voids in a Guqin repertoire. This project received one of three honorable mentions for the Penn State Hajjar Competition.
